Hoggs of Fife Ltd is a family-owned Country Clothing and Footwear business founded in 1888 by Andrew Hogg (pictured). The current Managing Director, Robert Gibson, is a great grandson of the founder.
Andrew Thomson Hogg started his working life as a shoe and boot maker, serving the agricultural community in his native Kingdom of Fife from premises in the picturesque village of Strathmiglo. At this time Andrew Hogg was manufacturing a wide array of footwear styles from elegant ladies shoes to the most rugged of hill boots for farmers. He was much more than a master boot maker; he was also a man of considerable business acumen. Demand for his high quality Hoggs footwear grew so quickly that, in addition to a pioneering mail order operation, during the early part of the 20th century the company established shoe shops in a number of market towns throughout the east of Scotland.
It was not until the latter half of the 20th century that the company recognised the opportunity to extend its brand reputation into the provision of clothing for its farming and country-dwelling clientele. Indeed, this modest diversification proved so successful that before too long a strategic decision was taken to abandon high street footwear retailing (with the exception of the original Strathmiglo shop) to concentrate on the manufacture of a comprehensive range of Hoggs of Fife clothing and footwear, with the accent on great value for money, for distribution nationally through agricultural retailers.
121 years later, Hoggs of Fife Ltd. has become a multi-million pound turnover business with the unique distinction of being the only UK brand of stature to concentrate on the provision of clothing and footwear specifically for the agricultural community and associated country professionals. Surely, Andrew Hogg would be delighted to know that even after more than a century, Hoggs Professional work boots remain the footwear of choice for so many farmers throughout the UK.
