Lazy Jacks
Rapid Growth
Our business started in 2002 by importing 4000 drill-shirts and getting them delivered to our basement flat in Teignmouth, Devon. From there we pulled the orders, loaded our cars up and delivered them direct to a small number of locally-based clients. The income generated from this first set of sales was reinvested in some more drill-shirts along with the first style of sweatshirt, the prototype for our bestselling product the unisex fitting LJ3 sweatshirt.
In 2003, due to other commitments, we moved to Worcester where we quickly outgrew our temporary premises, so in 2006 we moved again to nearby Shropshire and a 3,000 sq ft warehouse on the same site as the cottage we were renovating.
In November 2008 we moved again back to our flat in Teignmouth and moved the business to our 10,000 sq ft warehouse located just outside Newton Abbot, Devon. We now supply to over 300 independent shops throughout the UK and our overseas store in Western Australia.
Origins
The name Lazy Jacks comes from the sailing fraternity; they are ropes used on yachts and boats to assist in sail handling and, as we started off as a yachtwear company, the name seemed to fit. Additionally at the time we had a very lazy cat called Jack so that seemed to confirm to us that we should call the business Lazy Jacks.
We have always paid attention to detail in the quality of fabrics we use in our garments. All the garments are pre-washed at source so any shrinkage is taken out there and the garment you buy will stay that size wash after wash. Apart from one style, all our garments are 100% cotton.
All our styles of garment are easy to wear, most offer a unisex fit ranging from a size XS (which equates to a size 8) going up to a size XXL (which is a 20 or 22). We introduce a select few styles each year to keep the range fresh.
Our range has fantastic, bright and fresh colours which run through the range of garments, meaning that you can mix and match a sweatshirt with a polo and/or a gilet to create a flexible and co-ordinated look.
There is something for everybody in the range. We start off at 1 to 2 year old sizes for toddlers and our childrens sizing ends at 11 to 13 years old. It's then on to the adults sizes for teenagers, adults and grandparents. We even know of people who have been buried in their favourite Lazy Jacks sweatshirt!
