Maize Seed
Maize is a high starch, high energy and very palatable feed to all stock.
Maize is generally a consistent feed quality and if managed correctly, is capable of producing high yields of dry matter per hectare (15 - 16.5 tonnes DM/ha).
Maize, in the diet at a 50:50 inclusion rate with grass silage, can lift milk yields by 500 to 1000 litres per cow. On beef finishing units, the cost per kilo of live weight gain, can be lowered and days to slaughter can be reduced significantly.
In order to select the correct variety for your growing conditions, it is important to consider the limitations of the site (e.g. altitude, soil type, length of growing season) and not necessarily go for the highest yielding variety.
The Mole Valley Farmers' "Maize Package" incorporates all aspect of:
- Soil analysis and fertiliser recommendations
- Varietal selection advice to suit your farm
- Advice by BASIS qualified agronomists on weed, pest and disease control
- Harvesting and preservation advice
- Feeding strategies
