Optimising Production with Sound Nutrition
Efficient soil nutrition is important for establishing your sward and ensuring a productive ley. The amount and timing of fertiliser applications are key factors together with your choice of fertiliser to complement your soil reserves.
Mole Valley Forage Services aim to provide all livestock producers with cost effective fertiliser solutions which enable you to improve returns by producing more meat or milk from forage. We look to achieve this with the Nutribalancer™ program. This combines the technically advanced specific fertilisers in the range with traditional products, blends and straights.
We are able to offer excellent technical advice on all areas of forage and livestock production. This is provided through a team of local Forage Specialists supported by our own research, product development, and a local fertiliser manufacturing facility at Teignmouth in Devon.
The Importance of pH correction: Analysis of your soil pH is crucial to achieving the best return from your fertiliser inputs and to getting a new ley established. Most crops grow best at a pH of 6 - 6.5. Physiolith granular lime is recommended for the rapid correction of soil surface pH and contains a rooting complex Amino Purine to aid germination and root development.
Regular soil nutrient testing, at least once every four years, is recommended to ensure levels of Phosphate, Potash, Calcium, Magnesium and trace elements are satisfactory. Particuilar attention should be paid to soil phosphate levels. Phosphate is vital for root development and energy production within the ley. Clovers are particulary reliant on phosphate reserves.
Mole Valley Forage Services can arrange both pH testing or full soil nutrient analysis. Samples are analysed by an independent ISO registered laboratory to ensure accurate and reliable results. Nutribalancer™ fertiliser plans can then be provided from this information.

To ensure good agricultural practise, maximising yield and crop potential, it is advisable to do a soil analysis.
