THE BIGGER THE TYRE, THE BIGGER THE SAVINGS
Size matters, say tyre experts ATS Euromaster and Kleber, which have teamed up to offer Mole Valley Farmers members special discounts when buying any pair of Kleber agricultural tyres. And the bigger the tyres, the bigger the discounts!
Readers quoting their membership number at any ATS Euromaster centre will receive a discount relating to the rim size of the tyres they are buying, throughout March and April 2012. For example, buy a pair of Kleber 38” tyres and you’ll enjoy a £38 discount over the regular price – or a £28 discount for a pair of 28” tyres (and so on).
The offer spans the comple
te Kleber agricultural line-up, including the popular 65-series Gripker range. These tyres, launched last year, stand out for being purpose-designed to suit 80 to 180hp tractors, offering the optimum drive axle fitment for mixed crop farming and livestock operations.
The Gripker respects crops and grasslands by minimising rutting and wheel markings. Self-cleaning lugs expel mud and the tyres’ large footprint and rounded sculpture optimise load distribution and reduce ground compaction.
Another cutting-edge product included in the special price promotion is the ultranarrow Kleber Super 3 range for row crop cultivating. These tyres are renowned for their capacity to support heavy weights despite their super-slim profile.
For quotations on any Kleber agricultural tyres, or for advice on all tyre issues, Mole Valley Farmers members can contact their local ATS Euromaster centre by calling 0800 505 505 or visiting www.atseuromaster.co.uk/ats-agri.htm.

Effects of Tyre Inflation Pressure
Tyre Pressure is crucial to the function of the tyre, being virtually totally responsible for the tyre stiffness, shape and area of the contact patch, and the ground pressure.
Therefore correct tyre pressure maintenance is crucial for safety and optimising vehicle running costs.
Aquaplaning speed
In deep water tyre pressure affects the speed at which your car will aquaplane. Low pressures mean that aquaplaning occurs more easily.
A reduction of 15psi in tyre pressure reduces the speed of which your car will aquaplane by 5 to 10mph.
Kerb impact damage
Increased likelihood of damage with underinflated tyres.
A reduction of 8psi means that the tyre can be damaged at a 20% lower speed.
Tyre durability
When driving with insufficient pressure, the tyre undergoes greater flexing leading to abnormal heat build up and a weakening of the tyre structure. This heat build-up can lead to permanent deterioration of the tyre’s structure, seriously affecting safety.
Other tyre performances can be seriously affected by low tyre pressures, such as:
Rolling resistance
It takes more effort to move the car along with lower tyre inflation pressure. A reduction of 7-8psi leads to a 15% increase in rolling resistance. This can increase fuel consumption by around 2%.
Vehicle handling and steering
At low pressures, the vehicle will react more slowly to steering inputs. The balance of the vehicle will be affected, making control more difficult, especially under sharp accident avoidance manoeuvres.
Tyre roll-off performance
At very low pressures, there is an increased risk of the tyre being dislodged from the rim whilst cornering.
If the tyre becomes dislodged from the rim, control of the vehicle will probably be lost.
Fitting a new pair of tyres
Contrary to popular belief, where a pair of new tyres are to fitted to a car, Michelin recommend that they should be fitted to the rear axle.
This is to maintain maximum vehicle stability in slippery conditions, reduce the risk of losing control, and hence improve safety.
Fit new tyres to the rear!
