The Duke of Cornwall's Award

This award is for farm business diversification in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly


This award was initiated by the Duchy of Cornwall and applications are now invited, the closing date of 1st March.

This prestigious award will be made to the farm business that is adjudged to have most successfully diversified their enterprise within the county of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The Duke of Cornwall's Award for 2014 will be presented at the 2014 Royal Cornwall Show (June 5 - 7).

The award, originally presented from 2006 to 2012 for the encouragement of the teaching of traditional trades or skills, for 2013 onwards changed its emphasis to farm business diversification for enterprises run by farmers from buildings or land on their farm.

Please note that farm tourism businesses (B & B / holiday cottages etc) are not eligible for this award.


The judging panel will be looking for many things and will take particular account of, but not exclusively, points such as:
 

  • Commercial viability / sustainability
  • Creativity of the enterprise
  • The contribution to the local economy
  • Employment opportunities created (in particular for young people)
  • Community benefit


Entries are invited from all sizes of business except exclusions listby completing the attached application form.
Anyone wishing to make a nomination, other than for themselves, may also do so, but please ensure that the nominee is aware of such a nomination. Please note that from 2014, previous recipients of the award will not be eligible for nomination until the third year following their win.

The award carries with it a perpetual trophy (to be held for the year) and a signed certificate plus a cash prize of £1,000 from His Royal Highness the Duke of Cornwall.

Closing date for applications for the award - March 1st 2014
Please complete the application form and return the completed form by this date.
During March 2014 A shortlist of finalists will be prepared.
March / April 2014 The judging panel will interview those shortlisted.
June 2014 The award will be presented at the Royal Cornwall Show. Mole Valley Farmers will have their usual stand at the Royal Cornwall Show and look forward to seeing you there.
