Mole Valley Farmers  Sponsor Cornish Polo Player

Mole Valley Farmers  is delighted to announce their sponsorship of local polo player Andrew Burgess, from St Minver, near Wadebridge, Cornwall.

Andrew owns South West Polo where he plays alongside Mole Valley Farmers staff member Dan Loe, a Crop Nutritionist and Agronomist who works throughout Cornwall.

Andrew will be appearing between 12.00 – 2.00 at Mole Valley Farmers St Columb, alongside two of his ponies, as part of the branch’s charity day on Friday 24 July. Members of the public can come and learn more about polo, meet the ponies and even have a go at swinging a foot mallet!

The charity day will be very child friendly as it will raise money for Little Harbour Children’s Hospice, which is situated at St Austell Bay. The staff at St Columb will be baking a mouth-watering selection of produce to sell on a cake stall; there will be a Claas tractor for children to climb on, and a free raffle to win £50 of Mole Valley Farmers vouchers.

Andrew Burgess moved to Wadebridge, North Cornwall 12 years ago. Having played at clubs across the UK and internationally, he decided to set up South West Polo, allowing people to experience ‘The King of Sports’ for themselves. Andrew is a Hurlingham Polo Association approved Club Instructor, having taught all ages and abilities, from children’s Pony Club teams and complete novices, to experienced riders. Students can progress under his tuition from playing their first practise chukkas, to travelling to matches at other clubs across Great Britain.

Andrew says:

“It is great to have the sponsorship of Mole Valley Farmers, who are well known and respected within the equine world. Over the past few years interest in polo has grown dramatically, with new clubs opening. However, there are currently none in Devon and only South West Polo in Cornwall, and this is something we would like to change. “

He continued:

“Anyone interested in finding out more, is welcome to come along to the free and spectacular Great Western Railways Polo on the Beach which we organise, at Watergate Bay from Friday 26 – Sunday 28 June.  This event, which is now in its ninth year, together with matches played at the Royal Cornwall Show, has helped raise the profile of polo in this area and we hope some new teams will start up in the peninsula before too long”.
