Mole Valley Farmers’ Response to the Severe Weather and Flooding
in the South West

As a farmer owned business, Mole Valley Farmers has been working hard behind the scenes to support farms and businesses affected by the devastating floods on the Somerset Levels.

We have donated pallets of bagged beef nuts from our Huntworth Mill, provided lorries to haul bales of silage from Cambridge to Sedgemoor market and we have worked with our customers and suppliers to coordinate donations of feed.

We are currently working with a group of farmers from Warwickshire who have donated a significant amount of wheat, which is going to be processed by Mole Valley Farmers’ Huntworth Mill and made into beef nuts for use by farmers affected by the floods.  These farmers have set up a scheme called “A Bucket for Somerset” which allows farmers to donate a bucket full of assured wheat.

We have also channelled activity on social media towards the farming charities who are coordinating relief efforts to ensure we do not duplicate efforts.  In addition, our stores have charity collection boxes in place so the people visiting the stores can donate.

Julie Edwards, Head of Agricultural Marketing and Communications for Mole Valley Farmers said

As a business we have been working hard behind the scenes to support the affected farmers by donating feed and supplying transport.  I have been receiving calls from across the country from farmers offering feed and I have been working with the NFU and farming charities to co-ordinate and support the deliveries.  I have been overwhelmed by people’s kindness – but we just need to bear in mind that this support will be required for some considerable time to come, as many people will have little or no spring turnout and forage stocks are likely to be severely impacted upon.

Should anyone either need help or wish to make a donation however large or small to any of the farming charities these contacts may be of help:
