Riding for Willberry

To raise money for the Willberry the Wonder Pony Charity and The Bob Champion Cancer Trust

Alex Monro, Director of Moleenergy Switching (, is riding in a very special horse race, being held at Epsom Racecourse on Monday 27 August 2018, to raise money for the Willberry the Wonder Pony Charity and The Bob Champion Cancer Trust.

The one-off charity flat race will run over the full length of the Derby course, testing both horses and jockeys to their limits. Alex, a professional event rider who rode point-to-point in his younger years, now drives a desk in his day- to-day job with Moleenergy. He explains: “After reading Hannah Francis’ very poignant story (she founded Willberry the Wonder Pony charity) I decided it was time to get off my backside and do something to support a wonderful cause. “Karen and Paul George have kindly agreed to find an appropriate race horse for me and I am concentrating on getting in shape for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. My target is to raise a minimum of £5,000 and I am grateful for every penny donated. Also to sponsors Mole Valley Farmers and Rutherford Estates. Cosguard, Bishop Fleming, Hickstead and Mole Energy of course!“ Alex concludes:

“I will be updating everyone on my preparations via my Virgin Money giving  webpage”.

To date the professional riders racing include three day event rider Lissa Green, (daughter of twice European Eventing Champion and Olympic Silver medallist Lucinda Green MBE) and her cousin Lara Prior-Palmer, who won the 2013 Mongol Derby. Lara’s entry is particularly poignant as she has been battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Lissa and Lara will be joined by two other celebrity riders, Alex and seven other jockeys.
