An Evening With Emma Massingale

An Evening With Emma Massingale

An Evening With Emma Massingale at South Molton on Tuesday 18th October 2016

Meet Emma and hear about her adventure...

Animal behaviourist and freerider Emma Massingale has just completed two more epic equine adventures – this time in remote Scotland. Now Mole Valley Farmers is offering the opportunity for you to meet Emma, hear about her experiences and understand her successful training methods.

The ‘Evening with Emma Massingale’ will be held at the South Molton branch on Tuesday 18th October 2016. Members go free (two per Mole Valley Farmers account); otherwise tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for under 16s. All proceeds go to the World Horse Welfare equine charity. The event runs from 6.30 – 8.30 and a buffet will be provided.  Tickets are available through Eventbrite - An Evening with Emma Massingale.

Emma’s recent Highland Adventure involved taking two unbroken Highland ponies on a coast to coast walk across Scotland. Equipped with only a very basic supplies and not even a tent, she slept al fresco with the ponies!  During the arduous journey she bonded with her new companions, gaining their trust in tough terrain and harsh conditions, and even swimming with them across rivers. By the end she was able to ride bareback and reinless to the final destination of Ullapool, on the east coast. Emma chose the Highland ponies to accompany her as they have thicker skin to cope with the midges, strong legs and substantial bodies to carry loads across the bogs without sinking.

During the previous month, Emma took her two Shetlands (Albert and Ernie) back to their native Isles to camp amongst the wild herds and explore its ancient traditions. The Shetland pony evolved with relatively few importations as all animals had to be brought by sea. On hearing this, Emma promptly set about teaching Albert and Ernie to sail, which they took to like ducks to water. On an equally fun note, all three of the intrepid traveling companions returned with matching Fair Isle jumpers – see the Mole Valley Farmers’ Equestrian Facebook page for further details.

Both the Highland and Shetland Adventures will feature on BBC One’s The One Show later in the year, while Mole Valley Farmers’ has also made a short film with Emma and her cast of animals. Coming soon!
