A Review of Barbour Short Country Classic Wellingtons in Matt Navy

Live the Welly Life and Rock Your Wellies by Laura Daniels

As a shoe/bootaholic I have been searching for the perfect pair of wellingtons for nigh on 20 odd years!  During my quest my only wellingtons have been my brother's “cast-off” Dunlop wellies (crinkles nose and purses lips a la Miranda Priestley in The Devil Wears Prada). Suffice to say these wellingtons have been serviceable but have felt increasingly more like deep sea diver boots!

Last year I stumbled upon Mole Valley Farmers website and Facebook page as I was searching for Weird Fish (google it!)  I decided to follow them on Facebook and earlier this year saw a competition to win the job of being a Welly Tester for them.  I entered the competition thinking that I would hear no more....as you do!  Knock me down with a Weird Fish I got a phone call out of the blue to say that I had been selected to be a Welly Tester.

Imagine my excitement as the Postman handed over a box containing what could be the perfect pair of wellingtons....or not!  I opened the box to see the name Barbour on the boots....posh boots I thought.

Before I knew it testing day had arrived and we were off to “Rock our Wellies” at the Exile Music Festival in Derbyshire.  The weather was overcast as I put on my boots for the first time so I took my umbrella too just in case.

Immediately the Barbour short wellies are so comfortable they feel like slippers.  I am normally a size 5.5 but decided to go up half a size rather than down.  This way I can wear a pair of large socks or even treat myself to fleecy welly socks for the winter.  The rubber is very supple and flexes easily with every step.  I love the navy colour, it’s such a classic that goes with absolutely everything in your wardrobe be it plain or patterned.  My boots didn't encounter much mud, but the grass was wet underfoot and I didn't slip or slide.  I have had many lovely comments about my boots but mostly comments on the design which are shorter than average and very flattering to the calf area. The other amazing feature of these boots is the kick spur on the back which allows you to remove your boots quickly and easily without wrestling yourself to the ground to pull them off.

In these fabulous boots I feel sure footed and stylish.  Finally after all these years I can now live the Welly Life after the perfect boots have ended up finding me thanks to the choice of the lovely people at Mole Valley Farmers.  I would definitely recommend these boots to everyone reading this.  I am off to the Mole Valley Farmers website now to buy a Boot Bag to keep my wellies in perfect condition ready for their next rocking!!

Laura's boots were supplied by Barbour.
