Ninth Annual Large Herd Seminar 2014

Practical on farm sessions and technical workshops will run alongside the usual seminar programme at the Large Herd Seminar 2014.

Mole Valley Farmers are pleased to be sponsoring the event held at Tortworth Court, Wotton-Under-Edge, Gloucestershire on the 24-26 June. The theme of this year’s seminar is “Total Dairy” and promises something for everyone in the UK dairy industry, irrespective of herd size, with the practical sessions providing an ideal opportunity to bring the whole farm team along.

The event will cover five main critical aspects of managing a modern dairy herd; the cow, the feed, the calf, the feet, the people.

American “Dairy Coach” Tom Wall will be talking about all aspects of labour management on farm with a workshop looking at how to put his advice into action.

There will also be talks from world leaders in foot trimming and hoof health, Karl Burgi and Christer Bergsten, as well as Professor Sandra Godden, a leading investigator in the USA on Johne’s control and calf rearing.

Professor Mike van Amburgh will be covering the liquid feeding phase of the calf and what it means to future performance in the milking cow, while Ian Ohnstad looks at how to reduce mastitis and teat trauma during milking.

The role of new technologies in boosting performance will be the topic up for discussion by Trevor DeVries, while Dr Bill Stone will show us how to improve the consistency and management of feeding the milking herd. There’ll also be a workshop run by Prof Mike van Amburgh focusing on the latest developments in rumen nitrogen utilisation.
