Stewardship & Sustainability Talk At Local School

Supporting A Local Primary School with Help From SCA

Mole Valley Farmers was pleased to help support the outdoor studies of pupils from Newport Primary School recently, by donating garden pots, compost and trowels. These accompanied some spruce saplings, given by one of Mole Valley Farmers primary suppliers SCA Timber, which has recently been named one of the world’s most ethical companies.

Ian Hedden, Product Manager for Mole Valley Farmers takes up the story:

SCA, one of the largest companies globally in forestry and wood based products, offered to talk to a local school about stewardship and sustainability and also to donate some saplings. I spoke to Newport School who coincidentally had a project which needed trees and so were pleased to be involved.  We at Mole Valley added some pots, compost and trowels, so the trees could be potted up on the day, before being transplanted a few weeks later to the new play area”.

Mr Andy Cotton, Head Teacher explains:
We were delighted when Mole Valley Farmers made their kind offer, and the timing was perfect!  The school grounds are undergoing some changes, with the addition of an Early Years outdoor learning area. We wanted to plant some trees there when it was complete, so it was an opportune time for the children to hear about forestry from Mr Dave Taylor, SCA’s Business Development Manager, before putting some of their new expertise into action by planting the spruces”.
